Hydrology

From its world-renown springs in the north to the Everglades in the south, Florida has an abundance of water resources. Much of Florida receives about 50 inches of rain per year, which recharges our aquifers, fills our numerous lakes, and flows in rivers such as the St. Johns and Peace. However, managing these water resources can be challenging. Managers must balance the needs of the residents with the needs of the environment. Decisions must be based on solid data and a thorough understanding of the hydrologic environment. Professionals and staff at ZFI are experts at high-tech hydrologic data collection and analysis. We have collected streamflow data at numerous sites throughout central and southern Florida, under a wide-range of hydrologic conditions. We have experience working at remote sites, and under adverse environmental conditions including tropical storms and hurricanes. We continually strive to provide our clients with high-quality hydrologic data and analysis. Our services and capabilities include

  • Assessment of flow in rivers and coastal areas
  • Stream discharge and lake stage measurements
  • State of the art instrumentation, such as Acoustic Doppler Flow meters (ADFM) and Acoustic Doppler Velocity (ADV) flow trackers
  • Design and operation of periodic and continuous stream gauging networks
  • Conduit flow measurements in confined spaces
  • Flow-rating development
  • Hydrological and hydraulic studies of drainage systems
  • Water-budget analysis
  • Hydrograph separation
  • Hydrographic surveys
  • Hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling for rivers, lakes, and coastal areas
  • Application of hydrologic models (EFDC, MIKE SHE, RMA)
  • Massive hydrological data analysis and environmental statistics
